Acne can make its appearance at any age. When the pores of the skin get clogged, blackheads, whiteheads and cysts make their appearance. While blackheads and whiteheads are not painful, cystic acne needs proper medication and should be treated accordingly. Some of the methods used in the treatment of cystic acne are given here.
1.Isotretinoin – This is an oral antibiotic and is a very effective treatment. When colonies of bacteria are formed, they cause painful cysts. Isotretinoin works upon these colonies to eliminate them. It also controls the production of oil that gets accumulated in the pores of the skin.
2.Oral Antibiotics – These are first prescribed before trying out any other method for the treatment of cystic Acne. The antibiotics eliminate acne causing bacteria and are effective in most cases.
3.Oral Contraceptives- This is an effective treatment for women, as the contraceptives decrease the secretion of oil by decreasing the production of hormones.
There are other methods too that a dermatologist uses to treat cystic acne if the initial simpler treatments do not produce the desired results.
